Mesothelioma is a rare type of cancer that occurs in the thin layer of cells lining the body’s internal organs, typically caused by exposure to asbestos. There are three recognized types of mesothelioma, pleural mesothelioma, which is most common, peritoneal mesothelioma, and pericardial mesothelioma. Asbestos exposure and inhalation of asbestos particles puts an individual at risk of developing mesothelioma. In most cases, symptoms attributed to mesothelioma won’t appear in an individual until many years after the asbestos exposure occurred.

It is extremely important to provide up to date information about this preventable cancer and that is why Doran & Murphy acknowledges and supports September 26th as Mesothelioma Awareness Day. For the 8th consecutive year, Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation acknowledged Mesothelioma Awareness Day by holding various events ranging from gathering in Rockefeller Center in New York City to get coverage by NBC’s Today Show, to cancer walks/runs and lobbying local media to raise awareness of this cancer. The main purpose of this day is to bring attention to this aggressive cancer and to increase funding to research treatment options for mesothelioma patients.

Our firm uses the legal system to try to obtain compensation for mesothelioma victims exposed to asbestos. We recognize that the legal system provides only one piece of the puzzle to bringing awareness to this asbestos related cancer. More must be done to bring this cancer to the forefront of research to find real treatment options for those suffering from this disease.
